To this end, he instructs Sir John Hutton - Ambassador to Netherlands - to draw up a list of potential candidates - making particular inquiries about the Duchess of Milan and Anne of Cleves ( Joss Stone). His role as matchmaker will, he believes, be of more influence than mere words. Although Cromwell believes that the articles are not Lutheran enough, he wisely keeps his reservations to himself. The introduction of Henry's ‘ Six Articles of Faith' - felt by some to be too Catholic in leaning - has already provoked the resignation of one bishop and caused others to flee to the continent. Instead, the French King proposes a double marriage: his son to Henry's daughter Mary and Henry's choice of two young daughters of Madame Longeville. The Ambassador is delighted by the King's interest but, alas, his first choice has just been promised to the King of Scots. Unaware of Cromwell's plotting, Henry suggests to the French Ambassador his inclination towards taking a French bride. Kolling recalls Duke William of Cleves - a stronghold of the Protestant League - has two unmarried sisters, Anne and Amelia.
